Dell selects Ubuntu for desktop Linux - CBRonline.com


The computer maker said last month that it would offer Linux in consumer PCs but had yet to chose a flavor. In opting to offer Linux as an alternative to Windows Dell is responding to strong customer demand for the machines on the company's online sounding board IdeaStorm.

Computer maker Dell Inc (NASDAQ:DELL) has introduced a Spanish-language blog called DellenDirecto. The new blog at http://www.dellendirecto.com will be used by Dell management engineering customer care and sales personnel to listen to customer feedback discuss IT trends and blog about technology topics.

Dell caves in to Linux lovers offers Feisty PCs


Dell is trying a second time to sell personal computers with Linux preinstalled this time using the up-and-coming Ubuntu version of the open source OS. At the end of May the number two PC maker will begin selling some consumer-focused laptop and desktop models with Ubuntu's new 'Feisty Fawn' version of Linux installed according to a Dell spokesman.

All our desktops can run Linux if you want to we see this as more of a demand issue than a supply issue ' Dell's chairman and chief executive Michael Dell told Computer Business Review in May 2005. Two years on and with Dell's IdeaStorm web site having proven the demand for desktop Linux the company announced it has selected the Ubuntu distribution for its new Linux desktop machines.
