Dell looks beyond direct model
Dell the No. 2 PC maker became famous by selling computers directly to customers through the Web or catalog keeping costs low. But in a memo to employees last week CEO Michael Dell said the company is pursuing “new manufacturing and distribution models” as it battles market share losses. Dell said he also plans to further streamline the company.

Dell signals new direction with rethink of direct sales
It is the first time anyone at Dell has publicly admitted to doubts about the company's business model which relies on building and shipping each PC to order. 'The direct model has been a revolution but is not a religion ' Dell who founded the company in 1984 and to the position of chief executive wrote in an email to the company's 80 000 employees.

Dell chief Michael Dell has dropped his biggest hint yet that the PC vendor is looking at an indirect channel. In a leaked internal memo to staff Dell listed several key steps the company would need to take in order to retain a dominant position in the PC market place.
